[Delivered with the in the basket with the small baby girl left on the Hale Manor's doorstep, addressed to Derek.]

Dear Sir Hale,

It has been many months since we have last seen each other, but my name is Lady Mercy Durand, soon to be Duchess of Concord. As you may have already gathered if you are reading this letter, our last encounter a year ago left us with an unplanned surprise. I would have reached out to you sooner, however my father has no interest in any allegiance with your family, and intended to seek another solution to our predicament.

[There are hesitation marks in some of the phrasing, indicating moments where the quill in her hand hesitated as though she was unsure how to continue.]

The Duke of Concord was gracious enough to still take me as his wife, even in my dishonorable state, and were the child a boy, he would have raised him as his own. However, fate was not that kind, and he determined that since a girl is of no value to him, she was to be left in an orphanage. It is on the journey there that I came to a decision that even if I could not raise my daughter, I have hope that one of her parents will.

Enclosed you will find all of her paperwork and belongings, legally declaring you her rightful guardian. All you need to add is your signature, and she will officially be your heir, along with rescinding any claim I may have to her. I am sorry that I did not do this in person, however I feared that were I not to leave quickly, I would not be able to leave at all. I have heard many honorable things about your family. I hope they are true.

Her name is Patience. Please take care of her.

Very truly yours,

Duchess Mercy Walters of Concord.
